Organizing Your Finance Files

It’s a big part of your digital organizer journey — organizing your finance files. When your financial information is well structured and clearly presented, you can save yourself serious money. You don’t need to worry about things getting lost, and you may even gain the insight you need to make positive changes to how you manage your money.

But where do you begin? To get on top of financial file organization, make sure you include all of the following folders, if they apply to you.

Banking

All your regular statements, bank communications, and documents can go here.

Budget

This is where you’ll store your budgeting calculations and spending date.

Credit Cards

Credit card statements, agreements, and terms and conditions go here.

Pay Stubs

Keeping track of your income is crucial to your financial health, and you can keep your pay stubs and paid invoices here.

Properties

Properties tend to be paperwork-generating entities, with mortgage statements, insurance policies, and all manner of other documents.

Receipts

Keep your receipts in this folder to give you information relating to spending, as well as help you claim the right tax deductions.

Taxes

Tax returns and communications are other important aspects of your virtual organizing system.

Vehicle

Your vehicle is a little like your property — it will generate a lot of documentation you’ll need to keep safe.

Remember to use a naming system that feels natural to you so that it’s easy to remember and easy to stick to in the long term.
