In our last post, we looked at the mindset of organizing and how to go about getting organized in 2024.
For this blog, we want to dig a little deeper, exploring how you can find the best system for organizing and commit fully to this system.
Understand What You Want to Organize
Committing to a system doesn’t mean just using one solution for everything. If you’re organizing photos, for example, you might use Dropbox. But you might use Trello for organizing work projects.
Identify which areas of your life you need a system for. The rule is this: One system for one job. Make sure you’re not using multiple solutions for the same thing – like personal photos spread across Google Drive and Dropbox.
Weigh Up Your Options
Make a list of what you want from your system. Maybe things like:
-
Easy access
-
Cloud sharing
-
Simple editing
These are the criteria you will use to choose your system. Next, you can draw up a shortlist of possible solutions. The best system for organizing is the one that checks all your boxes.
Implement Your Own System
A system is not just a solution – it’s a methodology too. You’ll need your own system in place to make this work. This means:
-
Using the same naming conventions for each file
-
Managing passwords and usernames
-
Building a well-organized file structure
-
Making time to maintain your system on a regular basis
Stay Aware
You’ll need to commit, but this does not mean you can’t change in the future. As you use your system, stay aware of any problems or issues you encounter. Be honest – if a system is not working, change it. This is a crucial part of getting organized in 2024 and beyond.
